When the family is having money troubles, there is only one thing to do. You must help them out. Fiona has never been thought of as one who should waste her small mind on such circumstances. She was meant for something else. Probably, just marriage to a well endowed man. When life becomes very desperate, Fiona is unable to just sit and look pretty. She wants to get involved. She has one very good talent. She can paint. Her fine eye for color and line gives her just what she wants. It gives her money. There is one problem. Her talent might land her in jail.  Charlie is leaving Lancashire for New York. It is her first time visiting there. She is so excited. In her shoes, I would feel the same way. The trip on the plane goes well. Everything is great until she figures it out. Harry Taylor is not there to meet her.  It is such a horrible feeling to experience what is happening to her. She spends hours at the airport and find she does not have enough information with her. The story goes on. Although I have never had this experience, I almost feel her pain. It is a wonderful book. We definitely learn about Charlie.When all we want to know is where is Harry. Walking this woman back and forth as she tries to think what to tell her parents, etc. leaves the heart pumping faster and faster. You really feel like crying for her. This is not the way I pictured her New York Christmas. By the way, Lancashire is near London.
