King A Life by Jonathan Eig

Image
Martin Luther King  is  a very special man. This is what makes him still memorable today. He is an inspiration. It is as though God is holding his hand tightly every time he makes a decision. He seems not to fear or have any anxious thoughts when he does need to take the next step in his life. It is astonishing to recall how much he believed in and thought of Gandhi's ideas. He took his life goals seriously.  Jonathan Eig's book is one that leaves us knowledgeable of the fact that he was a "real" man. He had flaws. He did like women. At one time,  he dated a white lady. People who did not want races to mix judged the couple harshly. It is impossible not to bring  up the word racism when talking, reading or thinking about him. During that time people believed deeply in the tenets of Jim Crow. More than once he was accused of plagiarism. He must have felt shame and anger. King by Jonathan Eig is easy to read. I did get confused reading so many abbreviations of the King

This is where they discover houses that were used in famous movies and television shows like Leave It To Beaver." The boys return more than once. Now, this place is old and looks unused. The place is full of nostalgia and "things that "go bump in the night." It is fun to read because it is unknown what you will find around the next corner. It might leave you feeling jittery because there is a cemetery to walk through and some sort of mist that appears. Many reactions might occur. You might tear up or you might laugh. However, there are definitely serious moments in the novel. Whatever you do give this book a chance. Are there really ghosts?

Council Of Dolls by Mona Susan Power

Image
When we are unable to use our original language, it is difficult not to feel as though we have lost something very special. Sissy talks about this with her father along with her doll, Ethel. Mona Susan Power writes in a simple way. So, their pain is easy to understand. pain is easy to feel. It drifts through us and we join our pain to Sissy's. Sissy remembers her grandmother always used her ethnic language.  These families are Dakota and Lakota Native Americans. Once, Abraham Lincoln's name comes up. Perhaps, it is a part of his presidency the reader has never heard about in History class. Many of us can relate to the dolls. Whether new or used they act as a type of friend.  They are wonderful to have when you feel as though you are different. Ethel is a' honest' friend. She is able to cope with uncomfortable moments as Sissy experiences them. In"Council Of Dolls,"  the author writes exquisitely about the lives of children who lived at Indian Boarding Schools

All That Is Hidden by Rhys Bowen Clare Broyles

Image
It is difficult to think of Politics as ever being fun. "All That Is Hidden" begins  like a Fairy Tale. All of a sudden Molly finds herself  moving into a Brownstone. It is like all the theater lights have been turned on for her debut. With the Brownstone come servants and really anything her heart may desire. Her husband, Daniel, is going to run for Sheriff on a Tammany ticket.  All of these sudden wondrous changes do not make Molly jump up laughing and crying with joy. She is  very practical. She is also happy living in her small house. It is called Patchin House. One day she finds they are going to a dinner at Delmonico's. It is a very ritzy place. She does not have one fancy gown or dress to wear. Never caught without an idea Molly decides to ask her neighbor to lend her something to wear. Molly finds just the thing and her neighbor adds a feather along with the evening dress. It is all very exciting. Readers will discover again the magic of New York along with Politic

Camillle's husband, Ben, suffers a Heart Attack and dies immediately. Audrey Ingram helps us to feel and see what Camille lives through during this time. The emotions and thoughts of Camille are very real ; It is like Camille and Willa are sitting in your living room with their delicate moments in their hands. With gratitude we meet Camille and Ben's families and friends. At times, it seems as though Willa's words seem to fit an older child. Then, the language shifts back to one that fits a very intelligent child. Perhaps, Willa's words shift from maturity to over the top maturity because of this new experience: Suddenly, her daddy is gone forever, her mother is away psychologically. The world has flipped over for Willa. She and Camille must make a new world for themselves.

Written in Bone bone by Sue Black

Image
The secrets we do  not tell before death are hidden in our bones. Our bones are evidence of where life has taken us. Our bones tell a  personal story. I  find the thesis of Sue Black's non-fiction book very interesting. However,  the book is far more technical than I knew to expect.  My love of fictional mysteries can not hide the fact that if Agatha Christie did not write it, I can not understand it. I refuse to waste my time with it. I am sure a  medical doctor or lawyer or a mystery buff would delight in it. I have arrested my interest in Bone Anatomy .  A complimentary copy given by Sky horse Press

The Kneeling Man by Leta McCullough Seletzky

There are no words to describe the night Martin Luther King was assassinated. When thinking of him, it is impossible not to think of his family. This book "The Kneeling Man" may give us more insight into who was there in Memphis, Tennessee that night. In this story, we gain a picture of  one of the men there. They called him Mac. More is learned about this man's character and that night. We can never read enough information about Martin Luther King and the people who followed him.The Kneeling Man by Leta McCullough Seletzky is very good. The Keys To Gramercy Park by Candice Sue Patterson

Image
Maybe we are in the minority.  There are those of us who never had the chance to see the life of  a soldier after he comes home from the war. Therefore,we have not had the chance to see how these men interact with their families and friends. "The Keys To Gramercy Park" by Candice Sue Patterson is all of this and more. The novel starts after the Civil War. So, it starts around the 1860's. Then, still in  New York, we come to the present or the 1990's. I am glad the author chose two brothers, who are very different and the the same.Men are more complex than women. They do not let their emotions show. It is not their fault.  Society teaches there is strength in quietness. When a man cries, he feels shame. In a war, the same rules are applied. No wonder some men come home with amnesia.and other long term illnesses. There is a mystery brewing throughout. It is very interesting. Also, there are twins. Think about twins and catch the number of ways they can use their identic

I Know What You Did by Cayce Osborn

Image
It is very painful to read about Petal Woznewski's  traumatic situation. She found the bodies of her parents on the bed. If you've ever been to a  wax museum, you have a good idea what her mother and father looked like. If  she is not allowed to talk about what she saw, it can only hurt her. Think about children and teens who are orphaned because someone chose to brutally assault their parents. We always think our parents are immortal. What an ugly way to find out life's truths. Imagine what it is like when a book is published about what is happening in your life. All your secrets uncovered. It is not possible to hide anywhere. The book, "No One Suspected," by Me Littleton  is in a store window and every other place you can name. Plus, the book is dedicated to Petal. She had not heard anything about this book coming out. Now she hears the book might become a movie. Petal  hides her fears. She spends time looking for the author of "No One Suspected." He o
