It is too brutal. It makes me feel sick. Someone else would like this one. I am not reading any further. There is only gratitude for any written warnings about "The Bitter Past." It hurts and frightens me to think one person would commit a crime like this one. Of course, we hear about the torture of soldiers and other people on the news.  It's just awful. I am sure someone else, maybe a future detective, will love this book.

There are many different types of Mystery readers and writers. It is fun reading this genre because everybody can find a book to interest their curiosity and to enhance their lives. Mysteries do serve as warnings about how not to live our lives.

 Charlie is leaving Lancashire for New York. It is her first time visiting there. She is so excited. In her shoes, I would feel the same way. The trip on the plane goes well. Everything is great until she figures it out. Harry Taylor is not there to meet her.  It is such a horrible feeling to experience what is happening to her. She spends hours at the airport and find she does not have enough information with her. The story goes on. Although I have never had this experience, I almost feel her pain. It is a wonderful book. We definitely learn about Charlie.When all we want to know is where is Harry. Walking this woman back and forth as she tries to think what to tell her parents, etc. leaves the heart pumping faster and faster. You really feel like crying for her. This is not the way I pictured her New York Christmas. By the way, Lancashire is near London.

 My family must own some secrets too. It seems the normal thing. If they have any skeletons rattling in the closet,  they have been more than silent. Since it is a novel, I can read it with the joy of being uninvolved. I do not know what happens to the body as we make up lies to cover truths. It is all done because we want to protect someone from pain. As we protect them, they look around and see and feel that some thing is not right about their life.
