 Homeward by Angela Jackson-Brown is a family story. Like the waves of an ocean, good times come and go. What always remains is love for one another. When Rose faces trouble in her marriage,she goes back home to  Parson, Georgia. I am glad she goes back home. No one can say what you need to hear more than your parents, grandparents, siblings and friends.

There are so many ways to use the word home. Angela Jackson-Brown's words led me to think about Jasper, Rose's husband. After he leaves the Air Force,  Jasper .is looking forward to coming back home to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He knows Rose and his mother will welcome home. There, he will love Rose again and their new baby too. So often it is easy to take these places for granted. Each location leads to our learning how to love and to forgive ourselves as we grow toward a new self.

 Charlie is leaving Lancashire for New York. It is her first time visiting there. She is so excited. In her shoes, I would feel the same way. The trip on the plane goes well. Everything is great until she figures it out. Harry Taylor is not there to meet her.  It is such a horrible feeling to experience what is happening to her. She spends hours at the airport and find she does not have enough information with her. The story goes on. Although I have never had this experience, I almost feel her pain. It is a wonderful book. We definitely learn about Charlie.When all we want to know is where is Harry. Walking this woman back and forth as she tries to think what to tell her parents, etc. leaves the heart pumping faster and faster. You really feel like crying for her. This is not the way I pictured her New York Christmas. By the way, Lancashire is near London.

 My family must own some secrets too. It seems the normal thing. If they have any skeletons rattling in the closet,  they have been more than silent. Since it is a novel, I can read it with the joy of being uninvolved. I do not know what happens to the body as we make up lies to cover truths.
