The Midnight News by Jo Baker

Jo Baker's "The Midnight New"  is an invitation to come see, follow along with the British who are smack dab in the middle of World War II. On the home front the neighborhoods are being destroyed. Hard to believe when you were just sitting down to look at a  delicious cookbook. The characters are well rounded. There is a feeling you have met them yesterday on the train or in a department store.

Charlotte is the guide. She is a  very modest woman who is ever ready to lend a helping hand or just share a conversation. Truly, the writing is great. This is Social History at its best. These quiet war heroes and heroines do have stiff upper lips. The British really have skin that does not break easily.
