 Their world has become one of fear and suffering. A mother, not wanting to, has succumbed to depression. She can not hide her feelings from her daughter. I am filled with fear too. On there doorstep is nothing good. The Nazis are all over Germany. There is no escape from this danger. I know Nazis from other books. "The Porcelain Maker" by Sarah Freethy is in some way different. Possibly, we never reach a  complete end to knowing what happened in the Forties. I can not release Sarah Freethy's hand there is too much to know.

 Charlie is leaving Lancashire for New York. It is her first time visiting there. She is so excited. In her shoes, I would feel the same way. The trip on the plane goes well. Everything is great until she figures it out. Harry Taylor is not there to meet her.  It is such a horrible feeling to experience what is happening to her. She spends hours at the airport and find she does not have enough information with her. The story goes on. Although I have never had this experience, I almost feel her pain. It is a wonderful book. We definitely learn about Charlie.When all we want to know is where is Harry. Walking this woman back and forth as she tries to think what to tell her parents, etc. leaves the heart pumping faster and faster. You really feel like crying for her. This is not the way I pictured her New York Christmas. By the way, Lancashire is near London.

 My family must own some secrets too. It seems the normal thing. If they have any skeletons rattling in the closet,  they have been more than silent. At the moment, I am looking at all of them with suspicious eyes.  "In From The Cold" is about a family in turmoil. So many relationships cluttered with a hush. Since it is a novel, I can read it with the joy of being uninvolved. I do not know what happens to the body as we make up lies to cover truths.
