The brightest Star by Gail Tsukiyama

 I would give her acting job. Not sure I would make her a star. Anna May Wong is one of the characters in "The Brightest Star." Sadly, society has racist ideas about the Chinese community. From the time she starts school, people stereotype her personality and the way she looks. Gail Tsukiyama fully flavors the book with facts in an entertaining way. You must turn the page to see how the lady's life will turn out. It is shameful how we treat those who come to America looking for hope and happiness. The author picks the word "provincial." I would pick it too or are there worse words to describe the way we think of people who look different than ourselves? Also, there it is again. A woman should only live her life in a certain way. Preferably as a mother and wife. Just do not think so much. This is a Historical Fiction novel. Would you like to come to the movies with me?

 Charlie is leaving Lancashire for New York. It is her first time visiting there. She is so excited. In her shoes, I would feel the same way. The trip on the plane goes well. Everything is great until she figures it out. Harry Taylor is not there to meet her.  It is such a horrible feeling to experience what is happening to her. She spends hours at the airport and find she does not have enough information with her. The story goes on. Although I have never had this experience, I almost feel her pain. It is a wonderful book. We definitely learn about Charlie.When all we want to know is where is Harry. Walking this woman back and forth as she tries to think what to tell her parents, etc. leaves the heart pumping faster and faster. You really feel like crying for her. This is not the way I pictured her New York Christmas. By the way, Lancashire is near London.

 My family must own some secrets too. It seems the normal thing. If they have any skeletons rattling in the closet,  they have been more than silent. At the moment, I am looking at all of them with suspicious eyes.  "In From The Cold" is about a family in turmoil. So many relationships cluttered with a hush. Since it is a novel, I can read it with the joy of being uninvolved. I do not know what happens to the body as we make up lies to cover truths. It is all done because we want to protect someone from pain. As we protect them, they look around and see and feel that some thing is not right about their life. The one who is keeping the secrets searches for ways to cover his dishonesty: drinking, sex, running. It is all just balls scattered on the floor. No one can walk through them.
