 Buffalo  Girl by Jessica Q. Stark is a book that retells a fairy tale.  The fairy tale is "Little Red Riding  Hood." It is  interesting to  read and think. about this famous story in a  different way. Throughout time children and women have  experienced the inner anger of wolves. The "woods" no longer are a safe habitat.  There is also the rupture caused by Vietnam. Only so far can we run from these specters of abuse. We must face them like Buffalo Girl one more time each day.

 Charlie is leaving Lancashire for New York. It is her first time visiting there. She is so excited. In her shoes, I would feel the same way. The trip on the plane goes well. Everything is great until she figures it out. Harry Taylor is not there to meet her.  It is such a horrible feeling to experience what is happening to her. She spends hours at the airport and find she does not have enough information with her. The story goes on. Although I have never had this experience, I almost feel her pain. It is a wonderful book. We definitely learn about Charlie.When all we want to know is where is Harry. Walking this woman back and forth as she tries to think what to tell her parents, etc. leaves the heart pumping faster and faster. You really feel like crying for her. This is not the way I pictured her New York Christmas. By the way, Lancashire is near London.
