A man and woman choose to reject anything  "Babylon." They discover a new identity."  In the very beginning, there is mention of Haile Selassie. He is worshipped as the Living God. Men and women girls and boys begin to wear dreadlocks. meat is rejected.  These new thought processes are called Rastafari, Rastaman, etc. There are many ways to interpret Rasta

"How To Say Babylon" by Safiya Sinclair is about another way, a new reality for their lives. A more personal list of rules is adopted by "I."There are Jamaicans who hate his unfamiliar way. The words a house divided can not stand comes to mind while reading Ms.Sinclair's book. It is difficult to think you are reading not Fiction but a Memoir.Safiya Sinclair refuses to live with her son in the family home. This is such a tragedy. What father or mother would want to throw their child out of the family dwelling? It is like killing yourself.

This Jamaican family introduces the ways of theIsland culture. It is good to get a clear eyed  view of the author's father. In many North American homes the father stands as the head. He is the one ultimately in control. The book is multicultural. Perhaps, it might become your summer read. There are very interesting facts about Haile Selassie's life. It is a thoroughly readable and enjoyable book. Let us rest for a moment under a poinciana tree.
